Gratitude for Events Honouring Indigenous Veterans on November 8

Indigenous Veterans Day / National Aboriginal Veterans Day - November 8th

This day is dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people in Canada’s military and to acknowledge the unique challenges and injustices they have faced. I hold my hands in gratitude to identify within our Stócommunities the work of Stó Service Agency who annually offers a Remembrance Day ceremony. Within the ceremony is tribute to our honored veterans and families offer their own unique wreaths in front of the dedicated memorial site.

I also offer hands up in gratitude to Seabird Island First Nation, who hosts a house post carving by the late George Pennier. Their Remembrance/ Veterans Day ceremony is also honored with the Seabird Island Community school and the community. Both of these shared today offers my respect and admiration for all who have been involved over the years to ensure that those who served in Canada’s military are not forgotten. My beaded poppy on top of cedar bough was created by my friend. I also honor her in creating her recognition of Indigenous Veterans’ day.
